PAPER CLAY SCULPTURES

PAPER CLAY SCULPTURES

These are my latest art-form.

At present I've been concentrating on pet portraits, however I'm hoping to branch out into other subjects and I'm so excited about this. Just need to find time between teaching and painting. Watch this space !!

 'Give a Paw' series

Subject 2.png

The original sculpture is made in hand-made paper clay (papier-mache) Which I make from casting powder, paper pulp, PVA, minerals oils, my recipe tweaked to suit as I've developed the products. The sculptures are build on an armature of bound old newspaper and sometimes wire or wood supports. Each layer of clay allowed to air dry before adding another. The finished model is a strong and dense sculpture not fragile like other clays. It's and old fashioned way of working but it is making come back as we become more aware of the importance of re-cycling and the environment.

To expand this "Give a Paw" range without the process of taking weeks to make each one by hand. I've had reproductions made from my original. The un-painted sculpture was scanned and the 3d prints were taken from it. The 3d prints are made in a material called PLA which is a biodegradable acrylic. Each one is sanded filled and hand finished in the same way as the original. They can also be finished in a range of finished effects. The printed paw comes three sizes too.

Commissions in this range are welcome.

This Little Bird Series

This Little Bird original clay model was my ultimate recycled paper project, hence his Decoupage finish.

Totally creative and fun; made from old papers from the inside to the out.

The reproduction of 'The Bird in Hand' was born from the 'paw in hand' idea.

Inspired by my garden Robin, a very friendly little chap, maybe one day he will eat from my hand.

LOCK DOWN PROJECTS  that kept us together. More project on my you tube page .

Painting 12 days of Christmas SD 480p

As an art tutor I had to keep my class groups busy and connected in Covid Lock-Down by setting challenges.Such as creating their own illustrations for  The Twelve Days of Christmas. More of these projects can be viewed on my You Tube page

Alice in Wonderland is celebrating her 150th birthday this year.

As part of the celebration the painting depicts the connections with Sunderland in the birthday cake. Can you spot them. Ship building, Penshaw Monument, Hylton Castle, Roker lighthouse and the miners lamp.

My entry also celebrates the number of Un-birthdays there would have been in 150 years...Happy Unbirthday

Carol White "Art in our lives".

I was asked a short while ago if I would like to take part in some filming for Education China, on their TEA TIME show which was running a series about self employed people and the different types of businesses they ran in the UK.

This was not my usual sort of request for a ‘how to paint’ discussion, instead it was to talk about the importance of ‘Art in or Lives’. I am a great advocate for this topic but wasn’t sure how I would manage in-front of a camera. Anyway I shall let you decide...

Many thanks The North East Art Collective and their artists for providing such a nice film location. ..and to Walter Homes whose painting I chose to talk about. The film is live on You Tube and can be viewed from this link below
